Community Internship
During the Summer of 2017, I completed a community internship at OIC located in Southeast Rocky Mount. The facility serves as source of support for the community as a non-profit network of employment and training programs. During my community internship, I served as the assistant in the Human Resources department. The department was responsible for accepting incoming job applications, interviewing potential applicants, hiring candidates for posted jobs, updating employee information in databases, and keeping employee information updated. The community internship afforded me the opportunity to assist people in the community who were in search of jobs and assist the Human Resource Specialist with strategies to keep employee records up to date as mandated by the state and the company. |

The mission of OIC is "to provide comprehensive employment, training, business and health services that strengthen opportunities for people in the communities we serve." In an endeavor to reach all individuals and families who have been impacted by systemic poverty and a struggling, shifting rural economy, OIC’s ultimate goal is to help transform Eastern North Carolina by helping people, one household at a time, take control of their own destiny with information, services, access, and encouragement.
